About Tarapith Mandir
Nestled on the banks of the Dwarka River in the Birbhum district of West Bengal, Tarapith Mandir is one of India's most powerful Shakti Peethas — the sacred site where the eyeball (tara) of Goddess Sati fell during Lord Vishnu's Sudarshan intervention. Built in the traditional Bengali dochala style with intricate terracotta carvings, the temple enshrines a rare and ancient stone idol of Maa Tara nursing Lord Shiva as a child — a divine maternal form that the great sage Vashishtha himself invoked through intense Tantric penance after receiving initiation from Lord Buddha.
